Abbreviations

Abbreviations will be used only in the following ways. Do not use abbreviations in recipe methods, running copy, blurbs, or footnotes.

For timing given with recipes:
      Prep:
      Cook:
      Bake:
      Stand:
      Chill:
      Start to finish: (reserved for really quick recipes)


In the recipe timings:
      min. (same for plural)
      hr. (same for plural)


For nutritional analysis in food titles:
      calorie—cal.; protein—pro.; gram—g; carbohydrates—carbo.; cholesterol—chol.; milligram—mg (g and mg don’t need periods)

Recipe ingredient lists:
In most cases, ingredient amounts will not be abbreviated. In those cases where it is necessary, the ingredient list will use these abbreviations (singular and plural are the same):
      oz.
      lb.
      tsp.
      Tbsp.
      pkg.
